The first preliminary regatta of the 37th America’s Cup ended last Sunday having been a great success despite the inclemencies of the weather on Friday, 15th September, first day of the race which had to be cancelled.

The programme for the following days went according to plan, starting on Saturday 16th September with the victory of the ‘Orient Express Racing Team’ and ending on Sunday 17th September with the Match Race and the victory of the ‘American Magic’ Team.

For MORCHEM, involved in the development of innovative top performing light-weight materials and always supporting sustainable projects either driven by electric power or by wind as this was the case, this event was a unique experience which we shared with our customers and Morchem personnel.

We are grateful for the opportunity given to support this great event.

MORCHEM Adhesive PL 8270 A / CF 700 for Soft and Flexible Laminates has won the IFCA Star Awards 2023.

The India Flexible Packaging and Folding Carton Manufacturers Association (IFCA) has been addressing the needs of the Packaging Industry in India for 2 decades now.

IFCA Star Awards provides a platform to showcase innovative and cost effective solutions and the judges were highly appreciative of Morchem’s adhesive for specialised applications such as bulk pack used by many convertors.

We are glad to announce that our innovative adhesive Morchem PL 2727 AR + CF-740 R laminating adhesive has earned the RecyClass Recyclability Approval.

Following independent standardised testing, Morchem PL 2727 AR + CF-740 R is fully compatible when used up to 4 wt% of the PE film.  This compatibility aligns seamlessly with the cutting-edge recycling processes for natural flexible PE in Europe.

Our trials, conducted in strict accordance with the Recyclability Evaluation Protocol for PE films, yielded impeccable results. There were no compromises in the quality of recyclable material during the processing of PE films.

This achievement marks a significant stride forward in our unwavering commitment to making meaningful contributions to sustainable packaging solutions.

In line with MORCHEM’s sustainability strategy, 28% of our power consumption is now self generated through our second photovoltaic panel expansion thus contributing to reduce our environmental carbon footprint.

MORCHEM thus continues to reaffirm its commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Morchem North American President to Present Latest Advances in Laminating Adhesives at PACK EXPO

Adhesive Innovations Improve Packaging Recyclability, Performance And Manufacturing Efficiency

Pleasant Prairie, WI – August 22, 2023 – MORCHEM, an innovative manufacturer of adhesives and coatings committed to the circular plastics economy, will present technologies at PACK EXPO Las Vegas which the company has developed to reduce material and energy usage in the laminating process. Morchem President Michael Reed will lead the educational session, titled “Laminate With Less,” on Tuesday, September 12, at 12 p.m. at the Processing Innovation Stage.

In this presentation, Morchem will highlight adhesive innovations that improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions and minimize post-production waste in flexible packaging. As a specialist in both solvent-free and solvent-based laminating adhesives, as well as functional coatings and ink binders, Morchem will demonstrate how new, higher performance adhesives and barrier coatings can reduce scrap during the production process and enhance monomaterial films to improve the recyclability of flexible packaging.

“The industry needs new, forward-thinking solutions to reduce the environmental impact of consumer packaging,” said Cristina Ventayol, Morchem Chief Commercial Officer.  “We have been working on some very exciting adhesive and coating innovations for high performance laminates, and we can’t wait to share our results with our colleagues in the U.S. at PACK EXPO.”

Achieving greater recyclability in flexible packaging has been a major hurdle for the packaging industry’s sustainability goals, in large part because of multimaterial structures that are too challenging for current recycling processes. Attendees of the presentation will learn how Morchem’s new barrier technologies improve the functionality and technical performance of monomaterial laminates to provide a clear path forward for fully recyclable packaging.

PACK EXPO visitors can also go to booth SU-7374 in the South Upper Hall to learn from Morchem experts how to save energy with fast-curing adhesives, reduce emissions with high-application solid content solutions and improve process efficiency with laminating solutions that eliminate bubble formation and visual defects.

“With the latest advancements in adhesive solutions and the monomaterial structures they support, the flexible packaging industry can set their sights on much improved recyclability,” Reed said. “But the key to achieving this quickly is collaboration along the value chain. We need to coordinate our development efforts to realize the full potential of adhesive innovation and monomaterial films that create fully recyclable structures with the high performance required of today’s packaging.”

Morchem’s educational session “Laminate With Less: Adhesives for Material & Energy Reduction” will be held at PACK EXPO on Tuesday, September 12 at 12 p.m. at the Processing Innovation Stage (N-10511) of the Las Vegas Convention Center. We are in the middle of the first true global energy crisis. MORCHEM has evaluated the situation and the risks to which its 2 plants in Spain might be exposed.

Presently, Spain leads EU with most LNG regasification capacity accounting for 32% of the total EU capacity, and receiving liquefied pressurized gas (LPG) from different origins.

Spain’s gross electricity generation comes from renewable sources, followed by nuclear energy and finally gas with only 17,6%. Thus, the gas shortage has less impact on the electricity production in Spain than in the rest of the EU.

MORCHEM, included in the strategic sector during the COVID pandemic, would be given preference to receive energy supply, as it provides essential services for basic social functions.

Raw material supply: MORCHEM has a wide range of approved suppliers in different geographical areas, having sufficient alternatives to assure production in case of EU suppliers should fail due to energy shortages.
